Making a Messy Masterpiece with String and Paint

So now, maybe you want to get messy, but you're not sure where to start? Don't worry! I got you.

For this activity you will need:

  • Multiple strips of string (try different thicknesses)

  • Finger paints, or other nontoxic paints

  • Paper

  • Paper towels and wipes

  • Optional- Paintbrush and Pen/Marker

For children, and adults, getting messy can be a daunting task! To help ease their nerves, we use tools such as paint brushes, string, stampers and sponges to put some distance between little hands and big squishes. While you might notice how my fingers are covered in paint, it's possible to do this project without getting quite so involved. Use the paintbrush to paint the colors onto the string instead of pushing it into the paints.

To add some imagination to the project, use a marker or pen to turn your designs into mythical beasts, jungle creatures, super heroes or crazy contraptions. Transition from a messy play adventure into a journey through your child's imagination. Let me know in the comments below how your project went. Feel free to share pictures!
